Gentle Yoga Massage

Picture
Siska's Thai Yoga Massage is a gentle, personalized, 70-minute massage based on traditional Thai massage. You will receive this deep, full-body massage lying down on a cushion on the floor, wearing comfortable loose clothing. Thai pressure techniques will be applied to stimulate blood circulation as well as energy flow, starting at your feet and progressing all the way up to your head. You will also be guided into different yoga asanas (postures) to stretch and twist your spine, as well as lengthen certain muscles to increase flexibility.

Thai Yoga Massage - What to expect?

Before starting the massage, we will take a moment to talk about your body, (previous) injuries and where you habitually store tension. Taking into consideration your indications, we will spend more or less time on certain areas, depending on your input and our judgment.

As in Traditional Thai Massage, we will start with pressure applied with the palms (of the hands), the soles of the feet and forearm. This is an important step, as it warms up and prepares the body/muscles to then receive a deeper massage.

This deeper technique is a traditional Thai acupressure technique which is performed with the thumbs and applied on the Sen (energy lines) to restore the flow of energy throughout the body. These pressure sequences alternate with yoga stretching & twisting, a combined effort that will relieve areas of muscular tension, increase flexibility and stimulate blood circulation. At the end of each sequence, we will spend time to loosen the (remaining) tensed areas applying more Western massage techniques such as Petrissage (kneading) and friction.

Origins Thai Massage

Believed to be over 2000 years old, traditional Thai massage's origins lay in India while the art has later been refined in Thailand. Thai massage shows a strong Indian Ayurvedic and yogic influence but also has a very disciplined emphasis on energy channels, which clearly links to Chinese Traditional Medicine. For centuries, Thai massage was performed by monks as a component of Thai medicine and used, not only as a therapeutic method of healing to treat illnesses but mainly to maintain health and well-being.
